Mulayam: Amar Singh Resignation is ‘Nothing Big’
A day after trusted aide Amar Singh resigned all positions save the primary membership of the Samajwadi Party (SP), party chief Mulayam Singh Thursday said the development was “nothing big” and would be sorted out.
Speaking to reporters in Mainpuri, Mulayam said he had received a letter, but noted that Amar Singh “is still with the Samajwadi Party.”
Addressing queries over possible plans to persuade Amar Singh to withdraw his resignation, Mulayam Singh said it was an internal party matter that will be “sorted out”.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, however, did not rule out the differences between Amar Singh and his brother and senior party functionary Ram Gopal Yadav.
On Wednesday, Amar Singh cited heath reasons to put in his papers as the party general secretary and other positions he held. He, however, stopped short of resigning the primary membership of the party.
In recent months, Amar Singh had faced flak from within the party ranks as several of his decisions, including a loose-political association with former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh and contesting Mulayam Singh’s daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav in the Firozabad by-elections, had backfired for the regional power horse.
While the Kalyan Singh episode is believed to have hurt the SP image amongst its minority Muslim voters, the Dimple Yadav campaign ended in a fiasco with the SP losing the polls to Congress nominee Raj Babbar, once a close aide of Mulayam Singh.
Amar Singh Thursday said that if the party leaders felt he was of no use, he should be absolved of responsibilities as a member of the party, reported the Zeenews.com.
