Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks states to act against cow vigilantes

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked states to take strict action against those indulging in violence in name of gau raksha, said union minister Ananth Kumar. Modi attended the all-party meeting called by the Central government ahead of the Monsoon session starting on Monday.

The Union minister quoted Prime Minister Modi and said: “It (cow vigilantism) should not be given political or communal colour and the nation doesn’t benefit from it. There is a widespread feeling that cow is like a mother but this should not let people take law in their own hands. Every state government should act against it”.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister reportedly thanked everyone for the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country and called it a shining example of cooperative federalism.

On the Presidential election, Ananth Kumar quoted Narendra Modi as saying that a consensus would have been appreciated but despite that parties have maintained decency and have refrained from using unparliamentary language.

At the all-party meet, Narendra Modi also requested everyone to participate in the presidential election and use his/her vote judiciously.
