Mayawati Says CBI Cases and Support to UPA Are Two Different Things

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has described the CBI cases against her and her party’s support to UPA government on the issue of cut motion as two different issues having no relation with each other, said media reports.

“We are supporting the government since Day One to keep the communal forces at bay,” she was quoted as saying while addressing a press conference at her official residence to clarify the reason for her party support to the UPA.

“At the time of the formation of the UPA government, we gave unconditional outside support and that continues.

“However, our protest against the wrong economic policies of the Centre and its discriminatory attitude towards the state on development will continue,” she was quoted as saying.

In response to a query if her party’s decision to was influenced by CBI cases against her, she said that the issue of supporting the UPA government had nothing to do with it, reports said.

She also said that the reason for her support to the UPA is not because of the CBI’s recent indication to drop a major case of corruption involving disproportionate assets against her in the Supreme Court, reports said.

“I would like to say that the cases were lodged during the NDA regime and the UPA was not in power at that time,” she was quoted as saying.

About price rise, she said that inflation has badly affected common man and that the Centre should alter its policies to bring down prices, particularly of petroleum products, said reports.
