Maoists Set off Explosions during Bandh in Jharkhand

On second day of bandh called by naxalites, the house of an RJD leader in Chatra district and schools in Palamau and Khunti district was blown up by Maoists.

According to Superintendent of Police Jatin Narwal, as many as 100 rebels laid siege to the house of RJD’s block president Chandrika Yadav at Chatra’s Johri village last night and asked to dwellers of the house to vacate it.

Then, they packed dynamites in every room before setting off the explosion and before leaving the place left a noted warning people against taking part in forth coming Assembly elections.

In another incident, a school at Soude village in Khunti district was bombed by a group of rebels last night, said district Superintendent of Police A V Minz.

Police said that Maoists also destroyed two schools at Kharagpr and Bhavwar villages in Palamau district late last night.

It may be mentioned that Maoists have blasted seven schools in the district over the weekend. They blew up five schools, besides a panchayat bhavan on Saturday night.

During intensive patrolling, security forces recovered two landmines yesterday, each weighing 20 kg, planted beneath the Medininagar-Panki Road in Palamau, police said.
