Jet Airways, AI to Resume Flights to US today, to Operate Alternative Route

The director-general of civil aviation has given ‘go-ahead’ to Jet Airways and Air India to restart their flights to and from the US and Canada via Athens in Greece from today, reported ANI.

The Jet Airways took the decision to operate flights from Mumbai and New Delhi via Greece so that stranded passengers could reach their destinations in northern America.

The Jet Airways said that the new route through Greece would avoid the volcanic ash that has affected European airspace, report said.

Report said that the airline intends to restart its flights to London and Brussels also as the two airports re-open.

Besides, Jet Airways decided to waive off all penalties in case of cancellation of rescheduling of passengers’ travel plans, report said.

In the meantime, the national carrier Air India too decided to restart its flight to the US from today, said report.

Report said that the carrier would operate its non-stop Boeing 777-200 LR flights on the Mumbai-New York-Mumbai and Delhi-New York-Delhi sectors.

These flights, however, will operate through alternative routes due to the closure of the European Airspace.

Due to a backlog of passengers because of cancellation of flights over last few days, they have been asked to contact Air India before proceeding to the Airport.

The call centre numbers from India are: 1800 22 77 22, 0124 2877 777; from USA – 1800 223 7776.
