Instead of contesting one seat, I can look after polls in all the 294 Assembly constituencies: Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: On Wednesday Mamata Banerjee Union Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo announced that she would not contest the ensuing West Bengal Assembly elections. At the same time, she said that she would lead the government if the Trinamool Congress-Congress combine come to power.

Mamata told reporters, she would campaign across the state for the 294 candidates of her party and her allies. She said that after discussing with the Congress leadership, she would announce the list of candidates who would contest the elections.
“If people cast their votes in our favour and we come to the power, I will lead the government. I will get six months time when I will contest the Assembly election. It is a tradition. In Bihar, Nitish Kumar did that,” she added.

Also she would prefer spending more time in campaigning for her party, which would not be possible if she contested herself.

“I think instead of contesting one seat, I can look after polls in all the 294 Assembly constituencies.”
