India to Seek Headley’s Extradition

India is going to seek extradition of Pakistani-born US national and suspected Lashkar operative David Coleman Headley in connection with his involvement in last year’s Mumbai terror attacks.

Union Home Secretary GK Pillai said that the National Investigative Agency (NIA) is carrying out probe with regard to Headley, who allegedly conducted recce and made videos of 26/11 targets before passing them to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) attackers.

“When our investigation is complete, we will file a chargesheet in an Indian court. After filing the chargesheet, we will take a warrant of arrest. After getting the warrant of arrest, we will approach America (for extradition),” he told reporters in Siliguri before leaving for Darjeeling yesterday.

Headley was arrested by the FBI in October for allegedly plotting terror attacks in Denmark and India. His accomplice Canadian-Pakistani Tahawwur Rana was also subsequently arrested.

Pillai is in Darjeeling to participate the tripartite talks among the Centre, West Bengal government and the Gorkha Janmukti Morch on the Gorkhaland issue.
