RS Pura: Leader of ruling party of Jammu & Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti urged Central government to find ways to convince Pakistan to end cross-border firing. Tensions have been running high between the nuclear-armed neighbours since peace talks that were due to be held last month were called off at the last minute.
Cross-border firing between India and Pakistan killed at least nine people on August 28, the day India marked the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Indo- Pak war.
Mehbooba, daughter of state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and president of regional People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said the state government has initiated a scheme to help victims of militancy.
She also sought a comprehensive insurance policy for people living in border areas, as their life was extremely vulnerable to hostilities between the two countries.
