Home Ministry Slaps Show Cause Notice on Rathore

Former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, convicted in Ruchika molestation case, has been served a show cause notice by the Home Ministry.

In the show cause notice, the ministry asked Rathore as to why his 1985 police medal should not be taken away and pension reduced for allegedly abusing power, said reports quoting Home Ministry sources.

Reports quoted sources as saying that Rathore’s conduct was allegedly unbecoming of a police officer.

This came following uproar about light punishment of just six months awarded to him in the case. Also, activists have demanded punishment to him not only for molestation but for registering false cases against Ruchika’s brother and driving her to suicide and making life of her family hellish.

Rathore, a 1965-batch IPS officer who retired in 2002, was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious service on August 15, 1985. However, he was never considered for President’s Police Medal following an internal report of Intelligence Bureau.

Ruchika (14), a budding tennis player, was molested in 1990 by Rathore, the then Inspector General of Police. She committed suicide three years later by consuming poison as the police official continued to harass her family.
