Heat Generated in RS over Liberhan Report

The Liberhan Commission report generated much of heat in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday as Congress and SP MPs held the BJP responsible for demolition of the disputed structure while the saffron party debunked the report.

After adequate fight between the UPA and BJP in Lok Sabha, the Upper House took up the report for discussion today.

Abhishek Singhvi, senior Supreme Court lawyer, who was fielded by the Congress as its principal speaker, described the BJP as ‘hypocratic’ holding it responsible for diverting the main issue as to was responsible for the demolition of the structure.

“The issue is who demolished the Babri Masjid and why did they do it,” Singhvi said adding, “it was a carefully conceived and calibrated conspiracy…. enormous pre-planning was involved.”

He charged that BJP wanted people to believe that demolition of the structure was a spontaneous issue.

“They (BJP) think they eat grain while rest eat grass,” Singhvi said.

However, Amar Singh, SP general secretary held both Congress and BJP equally responsible for it.

He said that while BJP had sown the seeds of hatred, Congress and the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao remained a mute spectator.

Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley described the Commission’s report as ‘tragedy of errors’ lacking in credibility.
