Government is committed to passing a strong Lokpal Bill in the Parliament: Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday the Congress president Sonia Gandhi clarify that the government is committed to passing a strong Lokpal Bill in the Parliament and there was no need for uproar over the Lokpal Bill.

She said in her speech, which was read out at a ceromony, she also said that corruption can’t be fought with speeches alone.

Gandhi’s public rally in Uttarakhand, the first after she underwent surgery abroad, was cancelled on Wednesday owing to her indisposition.

AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said, “The Congress president is suffering from fever. Her visit to Uttarakhand has been cancelled.”

Besides addressing the rally, the Congress President was also expected to lay the foundation stone for the much-delayed Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail project at Gauchar in Chamoli district.

Sonia Gandhi addressing the rally was expected to be a virtual launch of the party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly election in the state.
