Goa Guv Seeks ‘Factual Report’ on Rahul Meetings

In connection with AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s political meeting in the Goa university campus, Governor SS Sidhu has sought a ‘factual report’ from vice chancellor Dilip Deobagkar, reported IANS citing a Raj Bhavan spokesman.

The intervention of governor came a day after university registrar Mohan Sangodkar said that he was responsible for allowing the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary to hold three political meetings in the university campus, said report.

“The governor has taken note of the reports in the media about the Rahul Gandhi controversy. During a meeting with the VC (vice chancellor) held on Saturday, his excellency has asked him to submit a factual report on Gandhi’s visit to the campus,” N Radhakrishnan, special secretary to governor, was quoted as saying while talking to reporters in a statement.

Gandhi’s meetings in university campus on Tuesday led to controversy in the state and opposition BJP even demanded resignation from registrar for allowing the meetings.

Even before Gandhi’s visit, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad – a students’ group close to the BJP – laid siege to the campus over the issue.

Later, university claimed that Youth Congress office bearers had not told them about the political nature of Gandhi’s visit.
