Girl’s Father, Uncle Taken into Custody for Honour Killing
In what could be a case of honour killing, the father and uncle of 19-year-old Asho, tortured to death along with her 20-year-old boyfriend Yogesh Kumar, have been taken into custody after they confessed to the crime, said media reports citing police.
The couple was found dead on Monday at her uncle’s house in Swaroop Nagar in northwest Delhi with multiple stab wounds.
“We arrested the father, Suresh Kumar Saini, and uncle, Om Prakash, late on Monday. During the interrogation, they confessed to the double murder,” Pankaj Sharma, the investigating officer, was quoted as saying.
“The two are in police custody now and will be produced in the sessions court in Rohini today (Tuesday),” he was quoted as saying.
Officials said that it is a case of honour killing as both Asha and Yogesh were of different castes and girl’s family was vehemently opposed to the match, reports said.
“It looks like a case of honour killing. The girl’s marriage was fixed with somebody else because she and Yogesh were from different castes,” a police official was quoted as saying.
“On Sunday, the girl came to stay at her uncle’s house and was assaulted along with her boyfriend and killed by her family,” he was quoted as saying.
Renu, Yogesh’s elder sister, said: “Asha wanted to marry my brother but her family forcibly fixed her marriage to somebody else. On an earlier occasion, her mother had come to our place and threatened dire consequences if Yogesh did not stop meeting her.”
