Delhi Blanked by Dense Fog, 20 Flights Cancelled

With cold intensifying and fog engulfing New Delhi, more than 20 flights have been cancelled as visibility has reduced to less than 100 metres, reported IANS. “Twenty two flights to and from Delhi have been delayed due to the reduced visibility,” an airport official was quoted as saying. According to a weather official, fog was dense as a result of ‘no wind’, said report. “There is no wind, otherwise there is no unusual phenomenon,” an India Meteorological Department official was quoted as saying. He added that the fog blanket is not expected to lift completely by noon. “We were expecting winds to flow which would have eased the fog. But with no wind the fog has become denser,” the Met official was quoted as saying. Yesterday, as many as 34 trains were cancelled due to a shallow fog, which also caused flight disruptions.
