No Clue to YSR Chopper Crash So Far
A week is over after the tragic death of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy and four others, but still there is no clue on what caused the air crash.
It is still not known whether a human error or some technical failure led to the crash of the Bell 430 on a hillock in the dense Nallamall forests, some nautical miles from Kurnool.
The investigating agencies, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and state police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID), which were the first to launch the probe, are still struggling to find answers to key questions.
Besides, two more parallel investigations by the CBI and a two-member expert committee were also announced by the state government on Monday.
Officials involved in the four parallel probes are looking into all angels, including sabotage. Answers to many questions have to be found such as was the weather warning issued, was the chopper properly checked before it took off, was it carrying an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) and whether there were any lapses on the part of pilots or Air Traffic Control staff in responding to the requests by the crew to help them.
The most significant part of crashed plane the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) or black box recovered from the rubble which could provide the information on what happened before the crash was yet to deciphered.
“If necessary the CVR would be sent to the United States for decoding,” said state Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy.
