Court Extends Madhuri Gupta’s Judicial Custody by June 12

A Delhi court has extended by 14 days the judicial custody of Madhuri Gupta, who was arrested on espionage charge, said media reports.

Gupta, 53, accused to passing classified information to Pakistan’s ISI, was sent to judicial custody till June 12 after she was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Rana through video conferencing, reports said.

She wad denied bail on May 21 on the ground that some officials were yet to be examined by the investigators with regard to the case registered against her and also forensic reports with regard to the computer seized from her was yet to come.

The police had contended that they were waiting for government sanction for suing Gupta.

She was taken into custody on April 22 after being called back from Islamabad where she was posted as Second Secretary in the Press and Information wing for allegedly violating the Official Secrets Act.

She came under the scanner after she showed ‘extraordinary’ interest in areas beyond her role in the information wing of the mission.
