Several people injured in Minaal Residency case
BHOPAL: In an attack by a mob protesting a demolition drive on Saturday, at least 25 policemen and municipal officials were injured. Seven people were arrested after which the demolition drive continued.
A six-storied shopping mall, allegedly constructed on 140 acres of encroached government land by real estate company Raj Builders, was razed by the municipal corporation two weeks ago.
On Saturday, violence broke out in the Minaal Residency area when authorities tried to demolish few floors of buildings constructed by Raj Buildersdespite assurance that there was no threat for residents of the area who have bought their homes from the builder.
People opposing the demolition drive stoned and set machines on fire. Severely outnumbered, police called for additional forces and thereafter, retaliated with teargas and lathi charge.
