Coal scam case: Congress goes for march to express solidarity with Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Asking all its MPs to be present, the Congress high command convened a crucial meeting to express solidarity with former prime minister Manmohan Singh who has been summoned by a special court as an accused in coal block allocation case.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with top party leaders are all set to march from AICC headquarters to Manmohan Singh’s residence on Thursday to express solidarity with the former prime minister.
Addressing the media, Sonia Gandhi said, “Manmohan Singh’s integrity cannot be questioned.”

Gandhi, CWC members, party MPs and other office bearers are meeting at 24 Akbar Road here following which the Congress President will lead the march to the residence of Singh on 3 Motilal Nehru Marg.

Also, Sonia Gandhi has called for a high-level meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and party MPs at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters early on Thursday.

The meet is reportedly being held to think plan of actions to defend Manmohan Singh.

Manmohan Singh, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary P C Parakh and three others were on Wednesday summoned as accused by a special court in a coal scam case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005 and asked to appear before it on April 8.

Singh on Wednesday, however, said he will get a chance to put forward his case with all the facts and expressed confidence that the truth will prevail.

“Of course, I am upset but this is part of life,” he told reporters here when asked for his reaction on the court order.
