BJP MPs Table Violation of Privilege Notice against PM in LS
As many as 50 MPs of main Opposition BJP have tabled a violation of privilege notice in Lok Sabha against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for announcing outside the Parliament his decision to dismiss demands of forming a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on the issue of alleged phone tapping, said media reports.
The MPs submitted the petition to Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary, reports said.
The action came close on the heels of Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj objecting to the Prime Minister’s announcement on the issue.
“This is a disrespect to the House. The Prime Minister should give a statement in the House on the issue,” she was quoted as saying in Lok Sabha.
Swaraj said that this was a serious matter, for even cabinet ministers were not spared and their phones allegedly tapped, reports said.
BJP has also demanded a JPC into the IPL controversy.
