Bhutan trip will remain in my memory: Narendra Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that his first foreign trip to Bhutan is  ‘productive’. This Bhutan trip will remain etched in my memory. It was a very satisfying & productive visit,” Modi wrote on microblogging site Twitter.

In Thimphu, the Prime Minister held talks with the Bhutanese leadership, addressed a joint session of Bhutan’s Parliament and inaugurated the Supreme Court building.

“This is wonderful for Bhutan’s development journey,” he added.

Modi further said, “Was happy to know about the large allocation for education in Bhutan’s last budget. It shows commitment to well-being of future generations!”

“India plans to create an e-library network in Bhutan & we would double scholarships being given to students of Bhutan,” he added.

Bhutan visit extremely successful: Swaraj

India on Monday described as ‘extremely successful and entirely satisfying’ the Prime Minister’s visit to Bhutan and said it would strengthen Indo-Bhutan relations.

“This visit has been extremely successful and entirely satisfying. It has reinforced and .further strengthened Indo-Bhutan ties,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told mediapersons here. Swaraj said the Prime Minister interacted with all the three wings of the democracy in Bhutan – the executive, the judiciary and the legislature during the two-day trip.

Swaraj said India was ‘deeply, deeply’ moved by the hospitality extended to and the love and affection showered on Modi with the king ‘personally supervising all arrangements’.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed all commitments made by the previous UPA government to Bhutan on various issues.
