Asaram Bapu held the gang rape victim responsible for incident

Ahmedabad: Asaram Bapu on Monday said that the December 16 Delhi gang rape victim is as guilty as those responsible for the barbaric sexual assault on her.

According to reports, the spiritual guru also opposed harsher punishments for the accused as the law could be misutilised. “We have often seen such laws are made to be misutilised… Dowry harassment law is the biggest example.”
The spiritual guru’s remark comes at a time when the entire nation is mourning the death of the 23-year-old brave heart who died in a Singapore hospital 13 days later after the heinous crime.
Earlier, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat had sparked controversies on two occasions. First, while speaking at an event in Silchar Bhagwat had said, “Crimes against women happening in urban India are shameful. Such crimes won’t happen in Bharat or the rural areas of the country. You go to villages and forests of the country and there will be no such incidents of gang rape or sex crimes. Where ‘Bharat’ becomes ‘India’ with the influence of western culture, these type of incidents happen.”

Subsequently, while speaking at another occasion in Indore, he had said, “A husband and wife are involved in a contract under which the husband has said that you should take care of my house and I will take care of all your needs. So, the husband follows the contract terms. Till the time, the wife follows the contract, the husband stays with her, if the wife violates the contract, he can disown her
