Arvind Kejriwal files nomination, targets Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi

Varanasi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for Varanasi Lok Sabha seat where he faces stiff challenge from BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress leader Ajay Rai.
“I am going to file my nomination in this worn out vehicle but Modi will come tomorrow in his helicopter. So, the people of Kashi should also not get fooled like the people in Amethi have been fooled for many years now,” Kejriwal told his supporters.
Kejriwal, who had led the Aam Aadmi Party to a spectacular victory in the Delhi Assembly polls in December last year, has been trying to replicate his successful campaign model in Varanasi by holding scores of roadshows.

The Samajwadi Party has fielded Kailash Chaurasiya, who is a sitting MLA from nearby Mirzapur. Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded Vijay Prakash Jaisawal while CPI (M) has given ticket to veteran party worker Heera Lal Yadav.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has fielded Indira Tiwari.

Polling in Varanasi would be held in the last phase of Lok Sabha elections on 12th May.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi had won the seat defeating gangster-cum-politician Mukhtar Ansari by a margin of 17,000 votes.
