Muthiah Moves SC Challenging Rules Allowing IPL Team Ownership to Members

Former president of the BCCI AC Muthiah has moved the Supreme Court challenging the board’s rules which permit members of BCCI and IPL to own IPL teams, said media reports.

In the petition, Muthiah argued that IPL secretary N Srinivasan is the owner of Chennai Super Kings and so there is a conflict of interest, said reports.

The move by the former BCCI president is being seen as a support for the beleaguered IPL chairman Lalit Modi.

The step by Muthiah comes just after Modi made a last ditch attempt to attempt to save himself from being voted out of the IPL.

Modi is expected to move the Bombay High Court today for an injunction on the IPL Governing Council meeting on April 26 that is supposed to vote him out of power.

Modi will be challenging the legality of the meeting saying that he alone has the authority to convene a meeting as the IPL Chairman.

If Modi gets a stay on the meeting, it will escalate into a long drawn legal battle between him and the BCCI.
