Two people died and six others were wounded in a shooting outside a wedding reception venue in Ottawa, Canada. No arrests were made so far by the police.

Two people were killed and six injured in a shooting outside a wedding reception venue in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, police said on Sunday.

The shooting occurred at 10:21 pm (local time) on Saturday when the victims were attending a wedding reception at Infinity Convention Centre near the Ottawa International Airport.

The police declared there were no further threats to public safety a few hours after the shooting, Acting Duty Inspector Amy Bond was quoted by CBC News as saying.

The two deceased — 26-year-old Said Mohamed Ali and 29-year-old Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir — hailed from Toronto. They were identified on Sunday.

The six people injured in the shooting were not in life-threatening condition, said Ottawa paramedic spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps.

Describing the shooting as “tragic”, Bond said there was no indication that the incident could have been hate-motivated. “This violence is tragic. It’s unacceptable. It’s disturbing for our entire community,” Bond said.

The police official said a probe was on and still in its early stages, adding that no information indicated so far whether the shooting targeted “any specific community”.

So far, Ottawa police did not made any arrests and provide a description of any suspects.

Gloucester-Southgate Councillor Jessica Bradley, who represents the area where the shooting occurred, termed the incident “terrible”, the CBC report said.

“This has no place in our community. There is no tolerance for this kind of violence. I hope that those involved and those who may know something share with the police. And that we are able to solve this quickly,” Bradley said.

The police have asked people to approach them if they have any information about the shooting or the suspects.
