KOLKATA: Various issues regarding the investments by US in the west Bengal has been discussed by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee with the US secretary of state Hillary Clinton on Monday.

They discussed the possible avenues for the US investment in the state. Mamata also mooted the idea of further meetings between chief secretary Samar Ghosh and US ambassador to India Nancy Powell on investment possibilities. Mamata also shares her development plans with Hillary.

Hillary visited La Martiniere School for Girls and interacted with students and young professionals. Students asked various questions about her country’s relations with Israel, its anxiety over Iran’s nuclear programme to its support for Pakistan.

Hillary Clinton had gifted to her a scarf with a printed picture of Rabindranath Tagore and a line from one of his songs.

She was very keen about the works of people like Tagore and Swami Vivekananda. I also told her that Shahrukh Khan has agreed to become West Bengal’s brand ambassador.

She said that Shahrukh is very popular in the US and has a fan club there. I also told her that we watch Hollywood films in India and suggested better co-operation with the film industries in our country. I also conveyed my thanks for a wonderful Poila Boisakh (Bengali New Year’s Day) message that she had sent for Bengalis on April 14.
