Communal Clashes in Mysore, 3 Killed
At least three people, a 14-year-old teenager of them, were killed in communal clashes between two communities that broke out in Mysore early on Thursday morning.
A 15-year-old teenager was killed in police firing, while two other people were stabbed to death in the conflicts. The one of them is a middle aged man in his mid forties and other a young boy in his twenties.
The clashes broke out between people from two communities near a mosque under construction in Mysore’s Udayagiri locality. Consequently, curfew was imposed in the area and the situation in surrounding areas too is reported to be tense.
A large police presence is reported at the site of the incidence. Police fired in the air and lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse crowds.
Police claim that the situation is under control but Mahadevapura main road continues to be blocked by protestors.
The clashes are reportedly over attempts to build a place of worship on a disputed piece of land.
