Suicide bomber blew himself at a bank in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: On Monday Pakistan police say a suicide bomber blew himself at a bank in the Pakistan capital, Islamabad, killing one person and wounding at least four people. The assault was the first bombing in Islamabad in nearly two years.

The attacker detonated his explosives when a security guard stopped the bomber from entering the bank. Authorities say the security guard was killed, said police.

Pakistani Taliban has pledged to carry out attacks in retaliation for the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden last month in a garrison town near Islamabad. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing till now.

Earlier Monday, Pakistani security officials said a roadside bomb blast killed three Pakistani soldiers in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.

According to officials at least three other soldiers were wounded in the explosion in the Ladha area of the South Waziristan tribal region – Pakistan’s main stronghold of Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants.

Following the May 2 killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces, militants have launched a number of attacks against Pakistani security forces.
