Tharoor Questions New Visa Rules

Tweeting on change in visa rules, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has questioned the stiffening of visa rules in the backdrop of the David Headley case, asking if India would allow terrorists to make it a ‘less welcoming’ destination.

In his latest post on social networking site Twitter, Tharoor said, “Is all that worth it just in hope of making it difficult for a future Headley to recce? R we going 2 allow terrorists 2 make us less welcoming?” He added, “26/11 killers had no visas.”

It may be mentioned that after disclosure of involvement of Pakistani-born American national and suspected Lashkar operative David Coleman Headley in 26/11,  the home ministry tightened visa rules for long stay and multiple entry.

The new visa regime has prompted criticism from the United States and Britain.
