Pak Captures Indian Fishermen, Boats

According to the Gujarat Fish Forum Association (GFFA), Pakistan has captured 72 Indian fishermen and taken into custody 13 boats from the vicinity of the Sir Creek.

“Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PSMA) captured 72 Indian fishermen and seized their 13 boats yesterday. We got this information from our counterparts, Pakistan Fish Forum, and have forwarded the details to authorities concerned in India,” GFFA Secretary Manish Lodhari was quoted as saying in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The boats and trawlers, all operating out of the Gujarat port of Porbandar, were in international waters near Sir Creek, the disputed coastal strip off Gujarat coast, when they were seized, he said.

“This is third time in a week that PSMA has captured Indian fishermen and their boats,” he charged.

The action comes close on the heels of the capture of 12 Indian fishermen and two boats by the PSMA.

Media reports attributing the information to sources in the fisheries department says that Pakistan has stopped releasing Indian fishermen since relations between the two nations sunk to a new low after the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai.
