Obama Asks Gilani to Bring Perpetrators of 26/11 to Book

US President Barack Obama has asked Pakistani Premier Yusouf Raza Gilani to bring to book perpetrators of 26/11 attacks, saying that the action will be a positive step towards improving Indo-Pak ties, reported PTI.

Two hours after his talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Obama raised the issue of 26/11 attacks directly with Gilani at his meeting and said that Singh was sincere in bettering ties with Pakistan but wants Islamabad to take action against those responsible for 26/11, report said.

Besides, Obama didn’t commit any India-style civil nuclear deal with Pakistan, said reports.

In the meeting, Obama is believed to have conveyed his desire to have an improved Indo-Pak relation, contending that he believes that it will have a positive impact on the overall situation in the region, said reports.

The US president noted that both India and Pakistan are sovereign countries, saying that he feels improvement in their relationship is beneficial to the two countries, reports said.

“Obama said he feels that Prime Minister Singh is sincere in his desire to engage Pakistan, but he (Singh) wants Pakistan to move against those responsible for the Mumbai attacks,” report quoted a source as saying who referred to the deliberations between the two delegations for about 40 minutes at the Blair House.

In the meanwhile, Gilani replied in the positive when reporters asked him if some action could be expected from Pakistan now that Obama is pressing for action against perpetrators of 26/11, said report.

“Certainly,” Gilani was quoted as saying, adding, “I am against terrorism and always of the opinion that those who are the culprit they should be brought to justice.”
