Nearly 12 People Killed as High-Speed Train Slams into them on Tracks

Nearly 12 persons were killed as a high-speed train rammed into them while they were crossing railway tracks in northeastern Spain, said media reports.

According to reports, most victims were young people, out celebrating an annual summer festival, reports said.

The victims had got off a train at a small coastal station near Barcelon and were crossing the tracks when another train arrived, reports said.

A woman said that a pedestrian crossing was closed and there was no light and there was no warning of the second train coming, said reports.

Earlier, reports had said that underpass was closed or not well signed, but the local mayor said that it was open.

At least 13 people were injured in the late night accident. Some of them are in a critical condition.

Emergency services found dismembered bodies scattered at Castelldefels Playa station, in what is Spain’s worst rail tragedy since 2003.
