Militants Set Ablaze NATO Supply Convoy outside Islamabad
In an attack on a truck stop outside Islamabad, nearly a dozen gunmen fired and torched a convoy of tankers and trucks bound for NATO forces in Afghanistan, reported Voice of America.
According to Pakistani officials, some 10-15 gunmen started shooting at the depot, situated only 10 kms from Islamabad and then set nearly 50 truck ablaze, reports said.
Officials said that attackers later ran away in cars and on motor cycles, said reports.
They said that seven people were killed in the attack, of them some truck drivers, reports said.
One driver said that he was sitting inside his truck when the attack began and heard attacker saying ‘kill the drivers’ and not let anyone escape, said reports.
Though it’s not first time that militants destroyed trucks carrying supplies for the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, such attacks rarely took place so close to Pakistani capital.
