Iran Wants Discussion with UNSC for Nuclear Fuel Deal

Iranian Foreign Minister has said that his country wants to discuss a nuclear fuel deal with UN Security Council members, reported AP.

State radio on Monday quoted Manouchehr Mottaki as saying that Iranian delegations would ‘visit China, Russia, Lebanon and Uganda within the next 10 days to pursue talks’, said report.

He said that Iran wanted direct talks with all members of the council except one, with which it would follow indirect talks, report said.

Report said that the minister most likely meant the US as Tehran and Washington don’t have diplomatic relations.

Mottaki’s remarks show that Iran is making a new push for revival of talks with the international community, said report.

The talks had come to a stop last year after Iran dismissed a UN-backed plan offering nuclear fuel in exchange for country’s stock of lower-level enriched uranium.

The swap, if it would have occurred, would have checked Tehran’s capacity to produce a nuclear bomb.
