Innovations in Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana

Bhopal: Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa informed Union Cabinet Secretary Shri P.K. Sinha through video-conferencing about works being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Grameen). Through the special video-conferencing, Chief Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha also informed about activities in their respective states under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan today.

Apart form providing Rs. 25 thousand per couple in marriages under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, the Chief Secretary informed the Cabinet Secretary that each couple is also being given Rs. 12 thousand for constructing toilet as per eligibility. It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to give this facility to toilet-less newly wed couples.

Cabinet Secretary Shri Sinha while expressing satisfaction over progress of Madhya Pradesh, lauded its cluster approach. ACS Panchayats & Rural Development Smt. Aruna Sharma was also present during video-conferencing. The CS informed Cabinet Secretary about implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Grameen) in Madhya Pradesh in detail. He said that 19 lakh toilets will be constructed under Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh. Directives have been given to all collectors to review the scheme regularly.

Strategy of Madhya Pradesh

CS informed the Cabinet Secretary that the strategy for year 2015-16 envisages 3-4 fold increase in the pace of construction of toilets and ensure their cent percent use. Gram Panchayats are being selected on the basis of priorities. These include Gram Panchayats situated on banks of Narmada, Panchayats selected under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, Gram Panchayats empowered by NRLM and DPEP and the Gram Panchayats having piped water schemes. A target has been set to curb open-area defecation in all selected Gram Panchayats in Madhya Pradesh by 2016.

The Cabinet Secretary was also informed about action taken so far under the Mission in Madhya Pradesh. Intensive training programme for block level motivators has been undertaken in 9 districts of the state including Harda, Katni, Raisen, Barwani, Chhindwara, Sagar, Vidisha, Ujjain and Betul. Transgender community in the state is also partnering as motivators. Training has been imparted to about 7 thousand masons in 17 districts of the state under Swachh Bharat Mission. Training for Swachhata Doots have also been imparted to 10 thousand persons in 32 districts. CEOs of districts and Presidents of Zila and Janpad Panchayats have participated in state level workshops under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) in districts. Officers of Rajasthan and West Bengal also participated in these workshops. Similarly, conventions of newly elected Panchayat representatives were also held in all districts.
