India reached into semi-finals, beat Bangladesh by 109 runs
Melbourne: Rohit Sharma slammed a brilliant 126-ball 137 and Umesh Yadav took a four-for to help India thrash Bangladesh by a convincing margin of 109 runs and book their place in the semis of the cricket World Cup 2015.
A matured Rohit smashed an authoritative century to help India recover from a slow start and reach 302 for 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Sharma made 137 off just 126 balls with 14 boundaries and three sixes, sharing a 122-run fourth-wicket partnership with Suresh Raina (65) after some tight Bangladesh bowling contained the Indian innings.
In reply, Bangladesh never really got off to a start in their stiff chase as Indian pacers led by Umesh Yadav (4 for 31) restricted them to 193. Mohammad Shami, who is now the leading wicket-taker in the World Cup, took 2 for 37 and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with 2 wickets.
Earlier, Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in a pitch which was good for batting. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma got India off to a solid start before Dhawan (30) was stumped by Mushifiqur Rahim off the bowling Shakib Al Hasan.
Virat Kohli (3) didn’t trouble the scorers as he chased a wide one and threw his wicket away to Rubel Hossain who gave him a real send-off.
India from a solid start suddenly lost a couple of wickets as Ajinkya Rahane who battled his way upto 19 soon lost his patience and gave his wicket away to Taskin Ahmed. India, by then, were in a spot of bother with the score on 115 for 3.
That got Raina and Rohit together who took the match away from Bangladesh in no time.
