Teen buys first lottery ticket on 18th birthday, wins jackpot of 1000 dollars a week for rest of her life

Ottawa: Charlie Lagarde, a Canadian teenager received the most exciting gift on her 18th birthday. The teenager, who purchased her first lottery ticket to celebrate her 18th birthday hit the jackpot and will now receive a whooping sum of $1,000 Canadian a week for the rest of her life.

Charlie Lagarde was celebrating with a bottle of champagne and a $4 scratch-off ticket earlier this month when she hit the grand prize in the Gagnant a Vie lottery. The prize would be worth just over $775 per week in American dollars.

Charlie collected the first payment on Monday. She was joined by friends and family. She told lottery officials that she hopes to study photography.

Interestingly, the teenager was given two options. She either takes a lump sum of $1 million home or receives $1,000 a week — for the rest of her life. She went for the annuity. Assuming she lives a long life, the decision is going to pay off. Over 60 years, $776.73 USD a week comes out to roughly $2.4 million USD.
