MP’s protest against tampering with Jallianwalla Bagh

Amritsar. Angry over the changed looks of Jallianwalla Bagh, two Member of Parliament today protest against tampering with the historic site and said they will raise the issue in Parliament.

DMK Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva and Congress’ SP Singh alleged that the historic look of the Jallianwalla Bagh, where hundreds of freedom fighters were brutally killed by the Britishers, has been badly tampered with.

The MP staged an hour-long protest, said that they will raise the issue in the next Parliament session. ‘Giving a new look to the entrance gate was a disrespect to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.’ Said SP Singh.

“We will not tolerate any attempt of tampering with the historical. We raised the issue with the authorities concerned at the Centre to do the needful in this regard,” they added.

The Jallianwalla Bagh witnessed one of the worst massacres under the Bristish rule when on April 13, 1919 British General Edward Dyer ordered his soldiers to fire on an unarmed and helpless crowd that had gathered to protest against the arrest of two Indian freedom leaders.

The crowd included women as well as children.
