Significant steps to improve efficiency and strength of police

Bhopal: Year-2012 goes in the annals of the Madhya Pradesh Police as a period of significant steps to improve its efficiency and strength in tune with the needs of present times. As many as 21 thousand posts in police force were sanctioned as part of the efforts to improve policing in proportion to increase in population. It has been decided to grant ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh and compassionate appointment to the kin of the martyr Home Guards. Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation constructed 2500 houses for the police personnel. It has been decided to constructed 4000 houses annually for them.
Women Desk in 141 Police Stations: A special women cell has been set up at Police Headquarters level for more effective curb on crimes against women. The cell is headed by a woman officer of the rank of additional director general. Under this cell, special cells have been set up at Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur. Women Desks have been set up in 141 police stations which are under the charge of SDOP. Recently it has been decided to cancel the arms licences of those indulging in crimes against women. A separate Directorate has been created for smooth traffic arrangement. Besides, 16 units have been set up to prevent human trafficking.
All the government houses have been got surveyed by a private agency and its outcomes have been placed online. Effective and penal action is being taken against those found illegally possessing these houses.
This year, widows of 14 ex-servicemen have been given government jobs by the Directorate of Sainik Kalyan under Home Department. Alternative jobs have been provided to 100 ex-servicemen in nationalized and cooperative banks. Ex-servicemen have been appointed on 54 posts of assistant police inspector and police inspector and 58 on the post of forest guard. Besides, 439 ex-servicemen have been provided jobs in private sector.
Assistant public prosecutors have been posted in all the districts to facilitate more prompt action in cases. Heinous and more serious crimes have been identified and the pace of their investigation and prosecution has been accelerated through district committees. High level monitoring of these cases is also being done.
Health Security Scheme: At the initiative of the Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta Madhya Pradesh Police Health Security Scheme has been implemented to ensure timely medical treatment to police personnel and medical reimbursement. Under the scheme 30 hospitals of the state and 31 outside the state have been identified. For this a police personnel would be required to pay a contribution of only Rs. 50 per month and he would be provided treatment of upto Rs. 8 lakh at government expenses.
State Industrial Security Force: It has been decided to raise two battalions of State Security Force to provide security force on payment to private industries and semi-government institutions. It has also been decided to raise a battalion of ex-servicemen. The process is on to recruit 1000 ex-servicemen in this force.
Transparency in Recruitment: The Home Minister has done away with the practice of interview for recruitment of police constables. Now only 800 meter race is written examination is required. Entire process in monitored through computer to eliminate any doubt. This has resulted in transparent recruitments.
