Salman Khan’s Tubelight underperforms on Eid, collects only Rs 19.09 crore on Monday

New Delhi: Salman Khan and his movies have ruled the box office on Eid since 2012. The trend, however, seemed to be changing with his latest release as his movie, Tubelight, which hit the theatres on June 23, managed to earn only Rs 19.09 crore on Eid.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “Tubelight has underperformed on Eid. Generally, Salman films set new records/do roaring biz on Eid, but it’s an exception this time.”

On the first day of its release, Salman’s Sultan (2016) had done a business of Rs. 36.54 crore. However, Tubelight only managed to earn Rs. 21.15 crore. Total business of the film now stands at Rs. 83.86 crore.

According to Adarsh’s tweet, Salman’s movie collected Rs 21.15 crore on the day of its release and followed it up with Rs 21.17 crore and Rs 22.45 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

“What’s surprising is that #Tubelight hasn’t crossed Rs 30 cr on a single day till now… Not on Sun… Not even on Mon [Eid holiday]…,” Adarsh further tweeted.

Adarsh also shared Eid collections of Salman’s previous movies. According to the tweet, Ek Tha Tiger released in 2012 collected Rs 32.93 crore on Eid while Kick collected Rs 26.40 on Eid in 2014. Similarly, Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected Rs 27.25 crore in 2015 and Sultan raked up Rs 36.54 crore in 2016.

Tubelight, directed by Kabir Khan, stars Salman’s younger brother Sohail Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, child artiste Matin Rey Tangu, and late actor Om Puri. The film is set in 1962, during the Indo-China war. Salman’s character is called Laxman and Sohail plays Bharat, his younger brother. The story unfolds after Bharat joins Indian Army and goes off to fight in the war. Tubelight is inspired by Hollywood film Little Boy.
