Man in Madhya Pradesh attempts to immolate self after Virat Kohli’s dismissal in 1st Test

Ratlam: Upset over dismissal of his favourite cricketer Virat Kohli, a 65-year-old man attempted self-immolation in Madhya
Pradesh’s Ratlam district. Babubal Bairva, a retired railway employee, sustained burn injuries on his head, face and hands,
said media reports.
Police said Bairva was watching the Cape Town Test alone in his room on Friday and was upset when Indian skipper Kohli got
out on five. Bairva reportedly poured kerosene on himself and attempted to immolate self. Hearing his cries, his family
members and neighbours rushed to his room and doused the flames.
The senior citizen was rushed to the district hospital where his condition was said to be stable. “The man in his statement
accepted that he was too upset with the dismissal of Virat Kohli and set himself ablaze,” Do Batti Police Station Assistant
Sub Inspector PS Alawa told a leading media house.
The medical report did not indicate that Bairva was drunk at the time of the incident, said Alawa. “During the probe, we
found no other reason which could have driven Bairva to this extreme step,” added Alawa. A case was lodged at Do Batti
Police Station and further investigation was on.
