Public Prosecution Officers should take initiative for early trials in cases of POCSO Act

Minister of Public Relations and Law and Legislative Affairs P.C. Sharma, while inaugurating the Legal Workshop on Public Prosecutions related to POCSO Act at PTRI, said that it is very important to initiate an early trial in cases of POCSO Act. He told the Public Prosecution Officers to reduce delay in obtaining DNA reports. Minister Sharma called for regular monitoring of sensitive cases like rape of girls and the need to get the culprits punished as soon as possible.
Minister Sharma said that it is the moral responsibility of the Public Prosecution Officers to behave with the victim like guardians against the accused of rape, motivating them to testify fearlessly and with full self-confidence. Giving information about the proceedings under the POCSO Act, Minister Sharma said that we have succeeded in getting the culprits punished in 67 percent cases in the state. This year the culprits were awarded death by hanging in 9 cases under the POCSO Act in the state. Minister Sharma asked the officers to create fear of punishment in the minds of criminals.
Principal Secretary Home S.N. Mishra said that fear should be instilled more in the minds of criminals particularly in those who commit crimes against women. For this, it is necessary to punish the culprits in maximum cases of such crimes. The government’s side should be put firmly before the court by the prosecuting officer. Principal Secretary Law Satyendra Kumar Singh said that daily proceedings of of cases under POCSO Act are being monitored at the state headquarters. Director Public Prosecution Purushottam Sharma gave detailed information about public prosecution of divisional level workshops related to POCSO Act.
