India vs Afghanistan: PM Narendra Modi posts special message for visitors on eve of historic one-off Test

Just hours more to go before the historic kick-off to the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan in Bengaluru and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through a letter to the visiting cricket team on Wednesday evening said that it was a matter of pride for the hosts that the Afghans have chosen to make their Test debut against India. “Special message from @PMOIndia on the occasion of the historic debut of #Afghanistan @ACBofficials in the test arena against @BCCI tomorrow at #Bengaluru. #INDvsAFG @BCCISportsTv #Cricket,” tweeted the ‘India in Afghanistan’, the official account of the Embassy of India.”It is truly historic occasion today as the national cricket team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan plays its first international cricket Test match. And it is a matter of great pride and immense pleasure that Afghanistan has chosen to play its maiden Test match with India,” wrote PM Modi.

Praising their achievement, Modi also said that it had come in “challenging and difficult” circumstances. “Today, cricket is a unifying force for the people of Afghanistan. India takes pride in being shoulder-to-shoulder with Afghanistan in this journey. It is an honour for India to host the Afghan national team at home ground in Greater Noida and Dehradun,” Modi added.
