Curfew Continues in Hyderabad

Curfew continues in Hyderabad as situation remains tense in many areas of the old city, said media reports.

Curfew was clamped in the city following incidents of communal clashes on Saturday in which one persons was killed and 80 others injured.

South Zone DCP Madhusudhan Reddy said that curfew had been extended till 6 pm today, said reports.

He said that 10th class examinations in as many as 140 centres in South Zone area were postponed because of curfew, reports said.

Nearly 1,800 paramilitary personnel have been rushed in for restoring peace in the sensitive areas, said reports.

The entire force has been put on alert to maintain law and order in view of Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on Tuesday.

On Monday, fresh clashes erupted in Moghalpura, Shalibanda, Charminar, Aliabad, Falaknuma, Shamsheergunj and Lal Darwaja localities after a group of miscreants pelted stones at passersby which increased tension.

One person was stabbed to death yesterday and another hurt in the Shalibanda area. Another person was injured when a vehicle was attacked at Khilwat Chowrasta, they said.

Police said that around 130 persons, suspected to be involved in the communal clashes, were arrested.
