India–Russia to Ink Landmark Nuke Deal

New Delhi and Moscow have finally reached a broad agreement to resolve the issue pertaining to the price renegotiation of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier India plans to acquire.

The two sides are also expected to ink a landmark civil nuclear accord when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets President Dmitry Medvedev for summit talks on Monday.

The two countries have reportedly worked out a general agreement to resolve the Gorshkov price issue – a snag in bilateral ties. A pact in this regard, however, is unlikely to be signed during premier Singh’s current visit to the Russian capital.

During premier Singh’s three-day visit to the country, his sixth since 2004, the two nations are expected to sign three agreements in the field of defence.

The Russian President will host premier Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur at a private dinner at his countryside residence outside Moscow.

The civil nuclear pact between the two countries will ensure uninterrupted uranium fuel supplies to India.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Prime Minister was accorded a red carpet welcome as he arrived in the Russian capital
