Petrol bomb hurled outside Raj Bhavan in Chennai

A senior police official mentioned that the suspect is currently under interrogation to determine the motive behind the attack.

A petrol bomb was hurled in front of the main gate of Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. A man who hurled the petrol bomb was swiftly subdued by authorities. A senior police official mentioned that the suspect is currently under interrogation to determine the motive behind the attack. The barricades and plants have been damaged in the incident.

The President is set to visit Chennai on Thursday in view of the recent development.

Though reports cited the hurling of two petrol bombs initially, the police told PTI that only one bomb was used and that it “did not create any impact the way the accused expected.”

Speaking about the incident Additional Commissioner of Police Prem Anand Sinha said, “A person tried to throw a bottle filled with petrol by lighting it on Sardar Patel road where Raj Bhavan is situated. One of the bottles landed near the barricade at Raj Bhavan gate but there was no damage. The accused was arrested. He has come out of jail after two years.”
