Govt to Provide Database of Temples Online
The state government is going to have computerized records and all information of the temples maintained by it, which will also be available online to prevent encroachment of their land, said media reports quoting an official.
Department of Religious Trusts and Endowment and Information Technology department are preparing a database on such temples, said reports quoting an unnamed official of the Religious Affairs department.
State government maintains nearly 12,000 temples, many of which own land worth crores of rupees but there has beenreports of encroachment and illegal possession of temple land.
Minister for Culture and Religious affairs Laxmikant Sharma said that the information technology department had given a presentation on the computerisation of temple records, reported IANS.
He said that this was being done to streamline the information about government-maintained temples and that the information would later be made available online, said report.
