Cong MLA +ve, man dies of Covid

A Congress MLA from Dongargaon in Chhattisgarh tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. Also, a 92-year-old man died due to Covid-19 at AIIMS Raipur.

The MLA has been admitted in a hospital after his reports returned positive while his family and staff have been quarantined, Rajnandgaon Collector Topeshwar Verma said.

A district health official said the MLA had visited the house of a man who had died in Dongargaon and this may have been the cause of infection as a relative of the deceased and another youth who attended the funeral were later detected with Covid-19 positive.

The MLA was later shifted to AIIMS Raipur.

“A 92-year-old male patient from Rajnandgaon was admitted on Sunday after being referred from the Government Medical College, Rajnangaon, with complaints of loose motions, fever and respiratory distress,” a statement from AIIMS Raipur said.

“His Covid report came positive on Monday and thereafter he was admitted in ICU. Despite all resuscitative efforts, his condition deteriorated and he succumbed to his illness at 9:45 am due to old age with acute gastroenteritis, pneumonia with respiratory failure with Covid-19 positive,” the statement said.
