Pandemonium in RS, LS over 2G Spectrum Allocation

Both the houses of Parliament on Thursday witnessed pandemonium and faced an adjournment after the BJP and the AIADM raised the issue of 2G spectrum allocation, said media reports.

In the Lok Sabha, the BJP and the AIADM alleged that the country had lost Rs one lakh crore in 2G spectrum allocation and demanding a JPC probe, pending which Telecom Minister A Raja should be removed from the ministry, reports said.

AIADMK member M Thambidurai, supported by BJP members, asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take the issue seriously and order a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe, said reports.

He said that Raja should be ‘kept out of the Ministry’ till a JPC probe is held and the ongoing investigation by the CBI is completed, reports said.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabah where AIADM raised the issue of a tabloid report that suggested that Raja had lobbied with a power broker for a cabinet berth, said reports.

As soon as the house met for the day, AIADMK members led by V Maitreyan and K Malaisami raised the issue, evoking a sharp response from Chairman Hamid Ansari for waving a tabloid and a CD, reports said.

“Please don’t show newspapers. This is not done. Please go back to your seats,” Ansari was quoted as saying.

However, the AIADMK MPs continued to stand just short of the speaker’s podium and shout slogans insisting on an explanation from the government, said reports.

“Please don’t do this. There shall be no slogan shouting,” Ansari was quoted as saying.

When perturbed MPs didn’t pay heed to him, Ansari adjourned the house at 11.02 am for 10 minutes, reports said.
