Ujjain to host Malkhamb & Yogasan

UJJAIN: Ujjain, also known as city-of-temples, is all set to host two traditional sports – Malkhamb and Yogasan under the ‘Khelo India Youth Game 2022’ in the campus of Madhav Seva Nyas Mahakaal.
As per the schedule, as many as 28 teams will participate in both the national-level sports events to be organized including Yogasan events from 1-3 February and Malkhamb competitions from 6-10 February. Eight out of total 12 athletes in MP Malkhamb team are from Ujjain, the senior officials said while explaining as to why the city-of-temples is called ‘nursery’ of said sports and thus, it’s been selected to host the games. In last year national-level sports events held in Panchkula (Haryana), MP Malkhamb Team had won five gold, four silver and three bronze medals. This year, as many as 240 national-level athletes from 28 states will participate in Malkhamb games while 128 athletes will take part in Yogasan events. In the MP Yogasan team, eight athletes are from Jabalpur, two from Indore and one each from Chhindwara and Morena district. The athletes will be provided stay in 16 hotels while a helpdesk for them at the railway station has been set up along with appointing nodal officers to assist them. The athletes will be offered a tour of the newly-developed ‘Shri Mahakaal Lok’.
