IPL Auction: Pollard, Bond Demanded Most, Four Players Go Unsold

The auction of 67 players for the third season of the Indian Premier League has begun in Mumbai, reported Indian Express.

Report said that Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi was the first player to go for auction but none of the teams showed interest and he went unsold.

However, bidders upped the ante when the West Indian Kieron Pollard was on offer, said report adding that Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super King matched each other till the end as both kept bidding for the player until they reached their price cap of $7, 50,000, with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders joining at the point for a 4 way tie.

IPL chairperson Lalit Modi announced the tie-breaker at this and all the 4 teams put in an undisclosed amount (in Indian currency). The bid went in favour of Mumbai Indians in the end.

Like Afridi, Australian keeper Brad Haddin and English captain Greame Swann also went unsold, while South African pacer Wayne Parnell was latched on by the Delhi Daredevils for a price of $610,000, said report.

In the case of Kiwi pacer Shane Bond, there was a two way tie between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders Kolkata. However, Bond went to the Kolkata Knight Riders in the end for an undisclosed amount, said report.

West Indian pacer Kemar Roach was sold to the Deccan Chargers for $720,000 and English middle order bat Eoin Morgan went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for $220,000, said report.

Former India player Mohd Kaif also went unsold in the first round of bidding.

Kieron Pollard had a base price of $200,000 while Shane Bond was priced initially at $100,000.
